The device for the limitation of the revolutions of internal combustion engines is used in the motorcar industry and the IC forklift trucks. It has simplified design and higher reliability. The extremely heavy working conditions at high temperatures are avoided, as the device is not mounted to the engine. And it can, furthermore, be used with all types of engines. The device comprises a tachometer (1) and electronic unit. Tachometer (1) is mounted to the motorcar or IC truck dashboard. To the hand (14) of tachometer (1) a non-transparent plate (15) is fixed, and to the dial (13) of the tachometer (1) an optron (4) is fixed comprising a LED (11) and phototransistor (12). The collector of phototransistor (12) is connected to the base of a control transistor (5) the collector of which is coupled to relay (6). The normally closed contact (7) of relay (6) controls the ignition coil (8) of the engine, and the normally shut contact (9) is connected to a solenoid valve (10) controlling the fuel supply to the engine.
