PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink composition for a ball point pen which excels in so-called resistance to drying-up properties such as blurring and impossibility of writing due to drying of the tip of a pen with its cap off for a long time, and does not cause the deterioration of ink performance such as a local viscosity change and a pH change. SOLUTION: The aqueous ink composition for a ball point pen comprises at least water, a colorant, a hydroxypropylcyclodextrin selected from hydroxypropyl-α-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, and hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin, and a shear-rate thinning agent selected from a polysaccharide and a synthetic polymer.
