PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manganese oxide having a large diameter of a tunnel that is suitable as a catalyst material, an adsorbing material and the like having a new function. SOLUTION: The manganese oxide having the tunnel structure of [4×n](n≥4) type is obtained by intercalating a specific quaternary ammonium ion between the layers of the manganese oxide of a layered structure and then performing the heat treatment.
