PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording paper carrying mechanism in which deflection of a recording paper carrying position (in a paper width direction perpendicular to a carrying direction), if any generated when skew of recording paper is corrected, can be easily corrected. SOLUTION: In this recording paper carrying mechanism, position deflection in the paper width direction is detected by a CCD line sensor 82 as the recording paper P to be carried toward an image forming part is temporarily stopped on a paper carrying passage for the purpose of skew correction or the like. The recording paper P is held by a pair of rollers 72 and 73 from the surface side and the back side, and the rollers 72 and 73 are slid to move in the paper width direction for the amount of deflection.
