<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the mounting volume of a floodlight system and to make uniform the distribution of irradiating light applied to a barcode symbol. <P>SOLUTION: A barcode reader 10 comprises a plurality of LEDs 11a to 11d for radiating irradiating light onto the barcode symbol 20, and a CCD 13 where the light reflected from the barcode symbol 20 forms an image via a receiving lens 12. The irradiating part of each of the LEDs 11a to 11d is covered with a respective LED cap 14a to 14d. The LED caps 14a to 14d has a diffusion characteristic such that the irradiating light from each of the LEDs 11a to 11d is diffused in such a way as to have a uniform irradiation distribution plane on the barcode symbol 20. The distribution of quantities of composite irradiating light on the barcode symbol 20 that depends on the combination of the LED caps 14a to 14d has a slightly convex distribution from the center C1 to both ends E1, E2 of the barcode symbol 20. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
