PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extremely efficient industrial production means for producing high quality 5-iodo-2-methylbenzoic acid by iodizing 2-methylbenzoic acid of raw material with a simple process in a high yield without wasting a raw material iodine. SOLUTION: This industrial production means comprises having, as essential processes, a process for iodizing 5-iodo-2-methylbenzoic acid in the presence of a microporous compound, iodine, an oxidizing agent and a dehydrating agent and a precipitation process for precipitating the obtained product by cooling or adding water.
