PURPOSE: To provide a grate bar exchanging apparatus for preventing additional separation of grate bars from a pallet from which the grate bar is separated, automatically exchanging the grate bar without exchange of sintering car and maintaining normal operation during grate bar exchange operation, and a grate bar constructed to be used by the grate bar exchanging apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for exchanging a grate bar comprises a grate bar separation sensing part installed to sense whether the grate bar(40) is separated from a sintering car or not and a separation position of the grate bar at a point of the input side from which the sintering car starts proceeding horizontally through a lower portion of an ore discharge part, a control part for operating the automatic grate bar exchanging device by receiving a sensing signal from the sensing part, and an automatic grate bar exchanging device(170) operated to mount a new grate bar on the sintering car by receiving information of the separated grate bar from the control part, wherein the automatic grate bar exchanging device comprises a traveling frame(130) traveled along rails(100) by a motor, a rotary frame(150) installed on the traveling frame such that the rotary frame is rotatably driven by a motor(80), a lifting frame(70) which is installed on the rotary frame, and in which a lifting cylinder is installed, a grate bar clamp installed on the lifting frame, and a grate bar loading unit comprising a grate bar loading rotary stand(110) installed at the other side of the traveling frame and rotated by a motor(90).
