An electronic control unit (30) detects a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, a bicycle, or a motorcycle by use of a camera unit (22), a bumper sensor (23), and left front and right front acceleration sensors (24, 25). In the event of a collision, the electronic control unit (30) activates hood actuators (12 - 15) so as to raise a portion of a hood (11), thereby protecting the pedestrian or a bicycle or motorcycle rider. In this case, the nature of a collision between the vehicle and a pedestrian, a bicycle, or a motorcycle is detected. In accordance with the detected nature of the collision, the hood (11) is raised; specifically, a front or rear portion of the hood (11) is raised, or the hood (11) is tilted along a moving direction of the human struck. <IMAGE> |
