PURPOSE: A detection method of an end and an end detector are provided to effectively print the end by exactly detecting the position of the end. CONSTITUTION: Reference data is generated(102) by scanning an end area of a printing paper through an optical sensor and detecting the reflected intensity(101). Measurement data is calculated by scanning the end area when the end area of the printing paper is located in a sensing area of the optical sensor(104). A voltage value showed up most within a voltage range is set as an end voltage value(106) after checking the voltage range of the end area from the measurement data(105). The position of the printing paper corresponding to the end voltage value in the reference data is set as the end(107). Thereby, the end is detected exactly.
