PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce alignment reverse of liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal display device having a structure wherein a liquid crystal layer is interposed between a pair of electrode substrates. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is provided with an array substrate, a counter substrate and a liquid crystal layer comprising a liquid crystal composition having negative dielectric anisotropy and interposed between the array substrate and the counter substrate. Especially, the array substrate comprises a pixel electrode PE applying an electric field to a pixel region of the liquid crystal layer, a ridge like structure TL controlling the inclination of the electric field applied by the pixel electrode PE so that the pixel region is alignment-divided and an inclination compensating protrusion CL formed as a base for bulging the outer edge of the pixel electrode PE.
