<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To induce short circuit when a negative electrode tab comes in contact with a metallic layer of a case by breakage of an inner skin layer since the same positive electrode potential is applied to a metallic thin plate of the case and a positive electrode tab, easily detect the variation in the open-circuit voltage, and thereby easily screen the presence or absence of the defect of a battery. <P>SOLUTION: A pouch type lithium secondary battery 30 is equipped with a battery part 31 having a positive electrode plate comprising a positive electrode current collector and a positive electrode active material layer formed on at least one side of the positive electrode current collector, a negative plate comprising a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer formed on at least one side of the negative electrode current collector, and a separator arranged between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate and insulating them each other; and a case 310 providing a space part 331 for housing a positive electrode tab 35 electrically connected to the positive current collector, a negative electrode tab 37 electrically connected to the negative electrode current collector, and the battery part 31, forming sealed surfaces 322, 332 heat-sealed along the end edge of the space part 331.
