PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indirect heating type rotary dryer in which damage or the like to an object to be dried due to dropping or flowing down is prevented, increase in manufacturing cost is kept to a minimum by piping a heating pipe to increase a contact area with the object to be dried, running cost is reduced by enhancing shock resistance and efficiency of heat transfer, drying throughput is increased by enhancing the efficiency of heat transfer, and an entire device is made compact. SOLUTION: The indirect heating type rotary dryer is provided with the heating pipes 11 disposed along an axial direction in a rotary cylinder 10 rotatable around an axial center direction and piped concentrically with respect to the axial center or zigzag in more than two lines in an overlapped manner. Pipe diameter of a plurality of the heating pipes 11a, 11a in an innermost line with respect to the axial center is set to be the same as or larger than that of the heating pipes 11 arranged in outer lines than the heating pipes 11a, 11a.
