<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter whereby a master station can receive an optical signal with less noise from a concerned slave station through each time division slot at all times. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical transmitter, a laser diode LD, a current source 22 for supplying a drive current to the laser diode LD, a FET 2 connected in series with the laser diode LD and the current source 22 and for converting the amplitude of an electric burst signal IN used for communication into strength and weakness of the drive current of the laser diode LD, and a FET 5 conductive only for a period when a bias period signal BIAS to specify a period of a time slot assigned to a concerned subscriber exists and cut off for a period when no bias period signal BIAS exists, are connected in series. Since the FET 5 is conductive for the bias period and cut off for periods other than the bias period in this transmitter, even when an instantaneous burst signal IN is produced due to noise or the like for the periods other than the bias period, no current of the current source 22 flows through the laser diode LD to prevent mis-stimulation of the laser diode LS.
