PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hydrous pearlescent preparation based on a quaternized fatty acid triethanolamine ester salt. SOLUTION: The hydrous pearlescent preparation is obtained by (a) reacting triethanolamine with a 12-22C fatty acid at a molar ratio of 1:1.3 to 1:1.4, (b) quaternizing the esterification product by a known method and (c) dispersing the quaternized product in water.
