The device has a winding spring (4) in a pot-shaped spring housing (1) for interaction with a safety belt spooling shaft. The winding spring is held by the spring housing at one end and a spooling mandrel (3) at the other and can be tensioned with the mandrel to form a spring packet (6). The spring housing has an attached cover (7) through which a run-out lock (9) passes via a cover opening (2) and that can be moved axially against the mandrel. The shape lock between the mandrel and spring end can be replaced by a shape lock between the run-out lock and the spring end. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a spring cassette and a method of manufacturing an inventive automatic spooling device.
