<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a jamming detecting method for the apparatus capable of appropriately detecting envelope-jamming, irrespective of the opening/closing state of the flap of the envelope, as for the image forming apparatus for forming an image on the envelope. <P>SOLUTION: The envelope S is set in a cassette so that the open flap is positioned on the side opposite to the carrying direction, and also, the flap opening/closing direction is made nearly parallel to a prescribed carrying path F. In synchronism with a printing operation, the envelope S is picked up from the cassette, then, the envelope S is carried along the carrying path F while keeping the flap opening/closing direction nearly parallel to the carrying path F. Besides, a detection sensor 84 is arranged on the carrying path F. A reference time (ts) is set in accordance with the length of the envelope with the flap open, and the occurrence of jamming is decided by comparing the continuous time (tm) of the detection signal which is outputted while the envelope S passes through the detection sensor 84 with the reference time (ts). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
