<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a micromini hinge device arranged on a portable instrument in which a hinge device can rotatably hold attached members, such as a liquid crystal display, an opening and closing lid arranged in a folding type portable telephone, a portable game machine, an electronic dictionary, a PDA. <P>SOLUTION: The hinge device for the portable instrument is composed of a shaft which is fixed to one section of the portable instrument and has a thrust surface in its axial direction, a retainer which is rotatably fitted to the shaft and is positioned near the thrust surface, a click pin inserted into the through hole of the retainer so as to move in the forward and backward direction, and a spring member for energizing the click pin forward.
