PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface grinding device of gems, for accurately finishing and processing an outside surface of the gems. SOLUTION: This surface grinding device 10 of the gems, has an A axis rotary mechanism 30 reciprocating along the X axis on a bed, and rotatably holding a work 11 composed of the gems with the A axis parallel to the X axis as the center, a tail stock 40, and a spindle rotary mechanism 70 arranged on the bed, reciprocating along the Z axis perpendicular to the X axis, and rotatably holding a grinding wheel 81 for grinding the work 11 on the Z axis. The tail stock 40 is arranged opposite to the A axis rotary mechanism 30, and is supported as a cantilever by the A axis rotary mechanism 30.
