PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for winter, capable of securing both braking performance on the ice and partial abrasion resistance at a high level. SOLUTION: In this pneumatic radial tire for winter provided a plurality of block rows 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e consisting of a plurality of blocks 4 in the circumferential direction by forming a plurality of vertical grooves 2 and a plurality of horizontal grooves 3 crossing with the vertical grooves 2, at least sipes 5 formed on the blocks 4 in the block row 4a and 4e on both shoulder sides respectively consist of two different length sipes, long and short, in a tire width direction, and the length of these sipes in the tire width direction is set so that a long sipe 5a has a length of 45 to 70% and a short sipe 5b has a length of 10 to 30% relative to the width of the block in the tire width direction.
