PURPOSE: An image synthesis apparatus using a letter and speech is provided to generate an input letter, a still image for expressing speech and a moving picture by synthesizing basic image data and partial imaged date stored in advance, thereby transmitting an image without using a camera and an image data transmission unit. CONSTITUTION: An image selection signal generation part(10) recognizes inputted letter and speech signal by a unit of a syllable, a word or a number and thereby generates an image selection signal. An image storage part(11) stores partial image data and basic image data divided by the unit of the syllable, the word or the number. An image synthesis part(12) searches the image storage part for the partial image data corresponding to the image selection signal. Thereafter, the image storage part synthesizes the searched partial data and the basic image data loaded from the image storage part so as to output a synthesis image signal.
