PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin care preparation for external use which is used for the skin, has excellent storage stability and moisture-retaining effect, and gives an excellent sense of use. SOLUTION: This skin care preparation for external use comprises (A) a sphingosine compound represented by formula (1) [R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrocarbon; Y is methylene, methine, or O; X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>and X<SP>3</SP>are each H, OH, or acetoxy; X<SP>4</SP>is H, acetyl, or the like; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each H, OH, or the like; R is H, amidino, or the like; (a) is 2 or 3], (B) an acidic compound selected from inorganic acids or≤5C organic acids; (C) a ceramide compound represented by formula (2) (R<SP>7</SP>is a hydrocarbon group or H; Z is methylene, methine or O; R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>are each H or acetoxy; X<SP>4</SP>is H, acetyl, or the like; R<SP>8</SP>and R<SP>9</SP>are each H, OH, or the like; R<SP>10</SP>is a hydrocarbon group; R<SP>11</SP>is H or a hydrocarbon group), and (D) a compound selected from a monoalkylglyceryl ether represented by the formula (3): R<SP>30</SP>-OCH<SB>2</SB>CH(OH)CH<SB>2</SB>OH (R<SP>30</SP>is an 8 to 24C alkyl) and sterol compounds or their derivatives.
