PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface skin material for a ball, while excellent in abrasion resistance, being soft, excellent in impact-absorbing property and suitable for the ball for ball-playing sports such as volley ball, basket ball, rugby, american football, handball, etc. SOLUTION: This surface skin material for the ball consisting of a sheet-shaped material obtained by laminating a coating layer consisting of a porous polymeric elastomer on the surface of a substrate layer is provided by having a coated layer consisting of a polymeric elastomer of which 40 % compression stress is 0.4-2.2 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>at the outermost surface layer of the sheet-shaped material. It is preferable that the 100 % elongation stress of the polymeric elastomer constituting the coated layer is 30-150 kg/cm<SP>2</SP>, the coated layer consists of a multilayer structure having≥2 layers and the surface side layer of the coated layer contains a grippy-improving agent.
