<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exert control that is not affected by a change in the voltage of a power source, causes no fixing failure, and prevents exceeding an allowable current. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a power source means that variably controls supply power by modulating an external AC power source; a heat source that receives the power supply from the power source means and heats a fixing unit; and a control means that controls the operation of each part of the apparatus and controls power supplied to the heat source from the power source means. The control means is capable of exerting control in at least two of the following control modes: a first control mode in which fixed power can be supplied regardless of a change in the voltage of the external AC power source; a second control mode in which power is supplied depending on a decrease in the voltage of the external AC power source; and a third control mode in which power is supplied so as to decrease more gently in accordance with the decrease in the voltage of the external AC power source than in the second control mode. Power that is as high as possible so that the total power consumption falls within the rated total power is supplied to the heat source according to the operated state of each part of the image forming apparatus. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
