METHOD OF INTEGRATING PLURAL NETWORK POLICIES INTO SINGLE FRAMEWORK WITHIN NETWORK DEVICE AND FRAMEWORK FOR THE SAME

PURPOSE: A method and a framework for integrating plural network policies are provided to manage and embody the plural network policies by integrating plural network policies into a single framework within a network device. CONSTITUTION: A framework for integrating plural filter based policies to be applied to packets of data including at least a firewall policy and a security policy includes a set of layer processes, a policy engine, and a set of filters. The set of layer processes(404,406) is used for identifying at least one parameter associated with a packet. The policy engine(400) is in communication with the set of layer processes. The set of filters is stored in the policy engine. Each filter in the set of filters(402) has filter conditions, an action(418) identifying the firewall policy, and a policy context(420) identifying the security policy.
