In a photographic printing system, image data of an image plane size (ishot L, ½xx½y) smaller than a print size (xxy) of a printer is transmitted from a portable telephone to the printer on an infrared communication basis. The transmitted image data is subjected to an expansion processing with expansion magnifications of 1.4 times to 1.8 times, and then converted to print data suitable for printing of the printer. A latent image is recorded on a recording medium in accordance with the print data. The recording medium is delivered out of the printer while it is developed. When a VGA size of image data is transmitted, the image data is directly printed out. When 1 mega size image data is transmitted, the image data is converted into image data of the number of pixels of the VGA size and then printed out.
