The invention relates to a method of applying pressure to a water shield (3) on a car body element, consisting in affixing a water shield (3) to the car body element using gluing means (4). The inventive method comprises a step consisting in pressing the water shield (3) and the gluing means (4) onto a support surface (6) of the car body element (5) using a panel (8) with a determined shape. The invention is characterised in that at least one portion (2, 7) of the panel (8) is made from a material having a rigidity of less than that of the support surface (6) of the car body element (5). The invention also relates to a device for applying pressure to the water shield.
