The invention relates to a method of production and a device for small metal work pieces that are for example used as mechanical control elements in machines such as knitting machines. The functional surfaces of said work pieces have to meet very strict requirements regarding surface quality, especially surface roughness Ra and/or regarding their positioning, especially their distance and/or angular position relative to a reference point or a reference surface, and are moreover very small. The invention also relates to the corresponding control anchor plate. The peripheral contour of the work piece is cut out from a planar blank by way of electrical discharge machining. The functional angle of the functional surface is produced on the work piece by electrical discharge machining and the final surface quality of the functional surface is produced by electrical discharge machining.
