PURPOSE:To decide uniform charging time of a storage battery to effectively conduct floating charge by measuring the specific gravity of an electrolyte which shows the charged state of the storage battery. CONSTITUTION:Uniform charging is conducted to a storage battery 1 with a charging unit 9. The specific gravity of an electrolyte is measured with a specific gravity measuring terminal 5 during uniform charging, and the measured specific gravity value is sent to a controller 8. The controller 8 controls uniform charging and floating charging, and operates the charging unit 9 so as to continue the uniform charging until the specific gravity of the electrolyte 2 reaches a specified value, and switches a switch 7 from uniform charging voltage side to floating charging voltage side when the specific gravity reaches the specific value to start floating charging. Effective charging is performed even to a storage battery which is deeply discharged. |
