PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handy turntable and a method of controlling the same, ensuring high-speed automatic tracking. SOLUTION: A footlight 100 is composed of a stand 9 extending vertically, a turntable mounted on the upper part thereof so as to be independently rotated in a horizontal direction and the vertical direction, respectively, and a light 10 fixed on the turntable 1. A pair of horizontal direction human body position sensors 3 arranged in the horizontal direction and a pair of vertical direction human body position sensors arranged in the vertical direction are mounted on the turntable 1. A control circuit is provided, which repeats the cycle for rotating, for a specified period of time, the turntable 1 to the side of a region where the output of the human body position sensor is generated and for stopping it, according to the output generated when either of the human body position sensors detects the movement of a human body, so that the human body position sensors are rightly disposed opposite the human body. Because the control circuit invalidates the outputs of the horizontal human body position sensors and the vertical human body position sensors, during the period of time when the turntable 1 is rotated or during a specified period of time after the rotation is stopped, the automatic tracking is permitted at such a high-speed rotation.
