METHOD FOR PREPARING OF COPOLYMERS OF METHYLMETACRYLATE AND METACRYLATE ACID

Compounds prepared by this method find application as film-forming agents in the pharmaceutical industry. The method is emission-free and eliminates the need for either the usage of surface-active agents, or the implementation of such operations as emulsification, pulverization drying, and dissolution in organic solvents. It involves dissolving between 20-50 % of monomers and 0.05-0.5 % of initiator in a 50-80 % of isopropyl alcohol. This step is followed by heating the mixture at 60-80 degrees C, at which temperature the co-polymerisation takes place. The copolymerisation requires 6-10 hours to complete. Afterwards, azeotropic distillation is carried out to isolate the residual monomers and low-molecular fractions. The prepared polymer solution is diluted with 10-50 % acetone, with respect to the total mixture.
