PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite image without a sense of incongruity by determining the factors needed for the inverse white-balance conversion of an image of the real space, and applying the inverse white-balance conversion of the image to the composite image which achieves white balance, thereby adjusting a difference in the white-balance factor between the composite image and the image of the real space. SOLUTION: A WB conversion factor calculating part 11 calculates a WB conversion factor of a background image I<SB>B</SB>based on a background image I<SB>B</SB>. A WB conversion factor calculating part 15 calculates a WB conversion factor for a foreground image I<SB>F</SB>. A WB conversion part 16 subjects the foreground image I<SB>F</SB>to WB conversion. An inverse WB conversion factor calculating part 12 calculates an inverse WB conversion factor based on the WB conversion factor of the background image supplied by the WB conversion factor calculating part 11. An inverse WB conversion part 16 subjects the foreground image I'<SB>F</SB>to inverse WB conversion on the basis of the inverse WB conversion factor. A synthesizing part 14 synthesizes the foreground image I''<SB>F</SB>subjected to inverse WB conversion with the background image I<SB>B</SB>and outputs the composite image created.
