PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film for a mold release film which permits practice of a precise inspection of a polarizing plate without detriment to handling properties in a crossed Nicol prism method, and a mold release film for protecting the polarizing plate obtained using the film. SOLUTION: The polyester film for the mold release film has a dynamic friction coefficient of at most 0.5 and a maximum transmittance of a 550 nm light of at most 30% in a crossed Nicol prism state, and contains 0 piece/m<SP>2</SP>of foreign matters of a maximum size of at least 150μm and at most 1.5 pieces/m<SP>2</SP>of foreign matters of a maximum size of at least 30μm in the film.
