PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-efficiency gas discharge panel with power saved and high performance by limiting an increase of a discharge current accompanying a higher definition of a PDP and preventing the leakage of plasma discharge in both lengthwise and breadthwise directions. SOLUTION: Transparent electrodes 22a, 23a in a scanning electrode 22 and a sustaining electrode 23 are provided with parallel electrodes 221, 222, and electrodes 231, 232, respectively, and, by being equipped with short-circuiting parts 223, 233 short-circuiting these electrodes at the center of a discharge cell 37, an increase of the discharge current is limited and the leakage of the plasma discharge is prevented.
