PURPOSE: To uniformly print a thick interior base material from the surface to deep positions by immersing the thick interior base material in water to give a specific water content, imparting a water-insoluble water-absorbing resin and a hydrophilic organic solvent to the base material, printing the treated interior base material with a printing dyestuff paste, and subsequently subjecting the printed base material to a thermal coloring treatment. CONSTITUTION: A method for printing a thick interior base material such as a moquette or a carpet comprises immersing the interior base material in water containing a surfactant in an amount of <=10wt.% to give a water content of 10-250wt.%, preferably 50-200wt.%, imparting a water-insoluble water-absorbing resin such as a starch- acrylonitrile-grafted polymer hydrolysate having an ion exchange water-absorbing capacity of 50-1000ml/g in an amount of 0.05-10wt.%, preferably 0.1-5wt.%, based on the weight of the base material and a hydrophilic organic solvent such as ethylene glycol in an amount of 0-20wt.% to the base material, printing the treated base material with a printing dyestuff paste having a viscosity of 500-1000cps (20 deg.C), subjecting the printed base material to a thermal coloring treatment such as a steam-heating treatment, washing the base material with water, and subsequently drying the washed base material. |
