An interpersonal communication device comprising: <SL> <LI>(a) a transmitter capable of delivering a signal over a short distance; and <LI>(b) a receiver capable of receiving the signal, </SL> the transmitter being adapted such that the signal is highly directionally focused and may be specifically targeted at a remote receiver by the transmitter operator. The device may be discreetly carried on the person, and is preferably comprised as part of another device, such as a mobile phone. Thus, a potential suitor can aim their device at someone, and transmit discrete message using radio or infra red radiation. The message may include a photo, personal information such as name, telephone number or address. The target may be alerted by an audio, vibratory or visual alert.
