1,140,051. Cutting-out presses. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. 7 April, 1966 [9 April, 1965], No. 15490/66. Heading B4B. A cutting press comprises a frame 12, a bed 18 and a beam 16 which is mounted on at least one column 14 and moved downwardly on to a cutting die by a fluid-operated piston 32, the extent of the upward stroke of the beam being determined by a floating piston 36, the position of which is regulated by an amount of fluid supplied through a pipeline 38 from a valve arrangement. To perform a cutting stroke, fluid is supplied to the piston 32 from a pipeline 40 to depress the column 14 through guidesleeves 22, 24 in the frame 12, a tripping switch S2 releasing the fluid pressure at the end of the stroke to permit a spring 26 to return the column to the position determined by the floating piston 36. Adjustment to the rest position of the beam is carried out by the valve arrangement illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown) in which the operation of a handle (60) admits or releases an amount of fluid to or from the cylinder above the floating piston 36. In order to permit the column and spring to rotate freely when the beam is swung aside, the spring is supported on a ball-bearing (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), and the piston 32 is held out of driving contact with the upper end of the column by a plunger (46), Fig. 3 (not shown), through the action of the spring 26, a plate (42) and a bearing assembly (48).
|
