A decoder 24 reads and decodes a predetermined access unit stored in a region 23A, based on elementary stream buffer index information stored in region 23B. A multiplexer 33 reads and multiplexes a predetermined access unit stored in a region 32A, based on elementary stream buffer index information stored in region 32B. The invention can be applied to a record reproducing device, for example.
