PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foamed gel having light weight and excellent stretchability and softness and produced by effectively forming foamed voids in a gel composed of a polymer of a water-soluble organic monomer, a delaminated clay mineral and a solvent, and provide a dried foamed gel having low density and produced by drying the foamed gel. SOLUTION: The foamed gel is composed of (A) a polymer of a water-soluble organic monomer, (B) a swelling clay mineral and (C) a solvent. The mass ratio of (C)/[(A)+(B)] is 1-100, that of (B)/(A) is 0.01-3 and the expansion ratio of the foamed gel is≥1.01. A method for producing the foamed gel having an expansion ratio of≥1.01 comprises the mixing of the water-soluble organic monomer, the swelling clay mineral, the solvent and the foaming agent or a gas and the polymerization and foaming of the water-soluble organic monomer in the presence of the delaminated swelling clay mineral.
