PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet supply device capable of accurately determining type of recording sheet before supplying the recording sheet to a printing part of an image forming device such as a copying machine and a printer to contribute user's convenience. SOLUTION: This sheet supply device is composed of a paper feeding tray 30 on which recording sheets P are loaded, a paper feeding roll 31 delivering the recording sheet P on the paper feeding tray 30 toward the printing part in an image recording device, a sheet separation member 32 arranged by opposing to the paper feeding roll 31 across a conveyance passage of the recording sheet P to prevent overlapping feeding of the recording sheets P, a surface detection sensor 35 pressed against the paper feeding roll 31, illuminating a surface of the recording sheet P which is stationary on the paper feeding tray 30, and outputting a detection signal corresponding to a surface condition of the recording sheet P by receiving its reflected light, and a sheet determining means 37 for determining type of recording sheet P based on the detection signal of the surface detection sensor 35.
