摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling transmission signal power of a wireless LAN module, particularly for minimizing power consumption for wireless communication by suitably controlling a power level of an RF signal transmitted from a wireless LAN module to an AP(Access Point), are provided to use battery power of limited capacity of a portable computer for a long time. CONSTITUTION: When a power reset operation is performed in a wireless LAN module(S10), a baseband processor attempts a certain channel setting operation for setting a communication channel with an AP of a wireless LAN system(S11). When a communication channel with the AP is set(S12), the baseband processor converts data outputted from a computer into data of a frequency suitable to be modulated to an RF signal, and an RF/IF converter converts the converted data into an RF signal. An RF signal of a certain frequency band which has been filtered by a band pass filter is wirelessly transmitted to the AP(S13). A power detector detects a power level of a reverse link signal received from the AP(S14). If the detected power level of the RF signal is greater than a suitable power level for wireless communication, a power controller adjusts the power level of the RF signal transmitted from the wireless LAN module to the AP to be suitable for wireless communication(S15). The above operation is continuously performed until the wireless LAN module is turned off(S16).
