The magazine shaft (4) comprises a lower part (4a) extending substantially perpendicular to a support surface (11a) on a support rail (11) for the pieces of e.g. cardboard (2), and an upper part (4b) slanting backwards relative to the feed direction (F). The rear side (8) of the shaft comprises a vertical guide section (8a) and a slanting guide section (8b). The shaft is formed by a front stop bar (5) and by rear and side parts (6-10). The height of the front stop bar can be altered relative to the support surface on the rail in order to form a passage through which the bottom piece of cardboard in the stack can pass. A sliding part (14) is used to move the bottom piece out from the stack beneath the front stop bar and transfer it to a conveyor (12, 13).
