PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method of evaluating the life of a material for grasping a damage process of the material prior to the occurrence of fatigue crack, and a method for preventing fatigue failure of the material from occurring. SOLUTION: Stress is repeatedly loaded onto the prescribed material to previously monitor changes in spontaneous magnetization from the start of stress loading onto the material to its fracture. Then, correlation between the number of repetitions of stress loading and the spontaneous magnetization is derived on the material. Then, the spontaneous magnetization of the material is monitored on occasions in the actual use of the material to compare the intensity of the spontaneous magnetization with the correlation between the number of repetitions of the stress loading and the spontaneous magnetization, thereby evaluating the useful life of the material to prevent fatigue failure of the material from occurring.
