PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recorder capable of efficiently dividing the tracks into groups and reducing the operation load on a user, and a method for generating group management information. SOLUTION: The group name information indicting a group is setup. After the start of recording of the tracks, a group division command is given to an information giving and generating means. Then, as a group set from a track whose recording in an information recording medium is started to a track recorded at the time of receiving the group division command, for example, the information of the same group name is given by the information giving and generating means, and the group management information is generated.
