<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multilayer gas sensor element less liable to bring about abnormal output in transient activity and having early activity. <P>SOLUTION: This sensor element comprises a measured-gas chamber 23 into which measured gas is introduced through a diffusion resistance part 15 from the exterior of the element, a measured-gas side electrode 21 provided on an oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte plate 11 so as to contact with the measured gas in the chamber 23, and a reference electrode 22 provided on the electrolyte plate 11 so as to form an electrochemical cell 2 by pairing with the electrode 21. The volume Vc of the chamber 23 is 0.15 mm<SP>3</SP>or less. The chamber 23 has therein a pumping electrode capable of pumping oxygen in the measured gas, and Vc/Sp<0.02 mm is preferable assuming that Sp is the exposure area of the pumping electrode and Vc is the volume of the chamber 23. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
