PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a brain and nerve cell-protecting agent, especially the agent for protecting brain and nerve cell traumas caused by cerebrovascular disorders, craniocerebral injuries or the like. SOLUTION: The brain and nerve cell-protective agent contains a material for reducing expression and/or activity of MIP-3α(liver and activation-regulated chemokine), e.g., an antiMIP-3αantibody or an antisense nucleic acid of MIP-3α. A diagnostic agent for brain and nerve cell disorders contains the antibody or the nucleic acid coding for MIP-3α. A method for screening the material having an action for protecting brain and nerve cells by using MIP-3αand/or CCR6 (MIP-3αreceptor), the nucleic acid coding for MIP-3αor CCR6 or the antibody against MIP-3αor CCR6, and a kit for the screening method, and the like, are provided.
