PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable ranging at a high speed with high accuracy regardless of a focal length state of a taking lens while suppressing the memory capacity of a memory to be used for storing the data read out of an image sensor. SOLUTION: The subject image data outputted from a pair of line sensors 102a and 102b composed of a plurality of pixels for converting a pair of subject images formed by receiving lenses 101a and 101b according to light intensity to a electric signal are read out by a reading out means 104 and are stored into a memory means 106. At this time, a CPU 105 performs changeover of the case the data of the respective pixels constituting the line sensors are stored as they are according to the focal length of the taking lens detected by a focal length detecting means 107 and the case the data of the adjacent pixels are added or the pixel data are thinned at every prescribed time period and are stored.
