PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for generating, updating, and using a database which includes geographical data used by an arithmetic platform and provide navigation-related functions or services. SOLUTION: Included is a method of combining a plurality of map databases which can be stored on different media. The plurality of map databases can be stored on the different media. Each map database comprises the whole parcel and is based upon a basic parceling pattern. When a navigation system is in operation, a single parcel index including reference to parcels is constituted with the plurality of map databases. The reference to the parcel uses a combined medium directory covering all medium objects. The combined medium directory is generated by combining content tables from the respective medium objects.
