PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable dot counting by the same configuration without complicating a circuit configuration even when the size of one unit region is changed in the configuration in which two kinds of dot counting of different sizes of the unit region as an object are possible. SOLUTION: There are set a first counting process (S1104) and a second counting process (S1103). In the first counting process (S1104), the number of effective recording data is counted for every first region at the time of transmitting recording data stored in a recording buffer to a recording head along with the execution of scanning so as to determine a process to be executed to the recording data. In the second counting process (S1103), the number of effective recording data is counted for every second region which is larger in the size than the first region from the recording data stored in the recording buffer by a timing prior to the first counting process so as to determine control of a recording operation. In the case where the size of the first region is larger than a predetermined value, the process to be executed to the recording data is determined on the basis of a count value by a second counting means.
