PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a skin care preparation which is used for skin, is well compatible with the skin, and has a good makeup-retaining property. SOLUTION: This skin care preparation for external use is characterized by compounding surface-treated calcined chaff silica. The calcined chaff silica preferably has a specific surface area of 250 to 800 m<SP>2</SP>/g, a porosity of 50 to 80%, a water absorption of 150 to 400 mL/100g of silica, and an oil absorption of 100 to 400 mL/100g of silica. The calcined chaff silica is preferably surface-treated with one or more compounds selected from organopolysiloxane compounds, organosilane compounds, organotitanate compounds, organoaluminum compounds, fluorocompounds, higher fatty acids, alkylamines, alkanolamines and phosphates.
