<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the impairing of separating performance even when abrasion with time is found, while preventing the generation of noise, improving durability by improving transporting performance, and miniaturizing a device. <P>SOLUTION: A pressure projecting part 50 of a separating member 43 is pressed to a peripheral face of a feed roller (rotary transporting member) 20 by energizing the separating member by a separation energizing member 42, the feed roller is rotated to transport a sheet material S, and the sheet material S is inserted between the peripheral face of the feed roller and the pressure projecting part to be transported while being separated one by one. In this sheet transporting device, the pressure projecting part is formed in such manner that a pressing width of the pressure projecting part is increased in accordance with the impairing of energizing force of the separation energizing member caused by the abrasion of the pressure projecting part to keep the constant contact pressure of the separating member to the feed roller.
